CTM Potters Supplies, on its own published figures

CTM publishes something rarer than a shop front: a whole price list on one page, body by body, with a column for every bag quantity from one bag to twelve, and a line at the top telling you in the company's own words that delivery and VAT are to be added. It is the least polished page in this index and the easiest to compare from.

Reading the table

The first price column is headed '12.5 kg 1 Bag', so the figure in it is the price of one standard bag and every column after it is a multiple. Stoneware B17C, a Valentines body rather than the Potclays one priced elsewhere here, is listed at £12.87 for that bag, which is £1.03 a kilogram before VAT.

Because the list is one page, it is the fastest way in this market to see how a supplier prices a whole class rather than one product: earthenware and terracotta bodies sit above the stoneware at £9.07 for a standard red, and the raku bodies sit well above both.

What 'plus VAT and delivery' actually costs

A price list that excludes VAT is comparing itself against trade prices, and a hobby buyer should add twenty per cent before comparing it with a retail figure that includes tax. This index runs every column excluding VAT for that reason.

CTM does not take payment online and says so on the page: orders go by email or telephone. That is a real difference from the other suppliers here and worth knowing before you build a basket.
